The original statue depicting the mythical Phoenix and Ganymede topping the Metropolis Building was a familiar icon in the skyline of Madrid.
So it created a controversy when the prior owners moved the statue after selling the building.
The statue was replaced in 1975 with this winged goddess Victoria, designed by the Spanish sculptor Federico Coullaut-Valera Mendigutia.

It was donated to the citizens of New Orleans by the people of France in 1959.
